Pioneer & J5 – Sunday 19th August 2012

Divers:  Brenden, Mark, Dan, Danny, Daza, Chris G., Chris E., Martin & Mark

The bay was as flat as a tack as I drove to Portsea on Sunday morning, we’ve been waiting a while for good diving conditions & now we are starting to get them. A mild swell rolled in as we transited the Heads, but the sun was trying to shine providing some warmth to offset the cool breeze coming off the water. The Pioneer is Suction Dredge with most of the hull still in tack, the bow and stern areas stand up about 3-4 metres with very nice penetration. A seal spends most of our dive darting in ‘n out of the divers and with the viz at least 10 metres the Pioneer is fast becoming a popular dive with the tekkies. I’m sure we’ll be back within the next few weeks, as some of us have some unfinished business with a cray fish!  Also, the good conditions carried onto the J5, with most divers agreeing that the smaller numbers on the boats, easy parking & great diving conditions certainly do make this the perfect time of year for diving.
