We had beautiful conditions on Sunday for Aquabilities “Operation Sponge Day” – Glassy flat, turquoise blue, 8-10m visibility and a not-so-bad 13C water temp. We photographed the new pier panels sporting their freshly glued sponges and counted the successful adhesions. Afterwards we headed off for a 20min recreation dive under the stunning Blairgowrie pier to appreciate what we were working to save – spectacular walls of sponges and kelp towering 5m above us with all manner of marine life peeking out from behind the kelp; With the most exciting sightings being the vibrant nudibranchs and seahorses.  Blairgowrie always makes you feel like you’ve been dropped into an exhibit at the Melbourne Aquarium. A huge Thank-you to the club members and their families who made the day a success and so enjoyable.
