SHB Batman – Saturday 25th April 2015

Divers: Andrew, Nick, Spike, Leo & Mark

Scuttled in 1935 the Batman was a Steam Hopper Barge built in 1883 by W.Simons & Co at their yards in Renfew, Scotland. Her job was to work on Port Phillip Bay carrying the spoil to the Spoil Grounds. The Batman was involved in a few minor collisions in her 33 years of operation, only to run out of usefulness.Todays conditions, although not great, weren’t too bad and the Westerlies have had little effect on the swell. The viz is down to about 5 metres and the mild current is making staying with the shot line difficult. However, dealing with this type of diving is what gives Melbourne divers the reputation that they enjoy world wide.
