SS Buninyong – 2nd January 2021

Divers:  Andrew, Ben H, Paul & Tim

The Buninyong was a steam driven passenger and cargo vessel that operated between various Australian ports from 1883 to 1924 before being scuttled in 1926. It now lies in 54 msw. A fairly large wreck around 85 m in length, it makes for a great dive with its 3 large boilers, wheelhouse and stern section the highlights. With 20 m viz on the bottom and very little current, we made the most of the conditions and were able to thoroughly explore the wreck and swim through the wheelhouse in our 25 minute BT. The wreck was still visible below us for the first 20 m of the ascent which capped off a fabulous dive.
