Mornington Pier – Monday 4th November 2013

Conditions could not have been better as we kitted up in the carpark for our dive, the sun was shining, the sea was flat & the viz was about 8metres. The fish life didn’t seem to be as plentiful as our last dive, although I didn’t get to the very end of the pier. One thing I did notice is the amount of 11 Armed Sea Stars and not one of the Nothern Pacific Sea Stars, hopefully the locals have taken back their territory and that the pests are gone for good – somehow I don’t think this is the case, unfortunately.  The building works on the pier continue to unearth some treasures, with nice bottles still being uncovered, you may have to dig a bit to find them but there are still plenty to be found. Any one enterprising enough should take a dive at Mornington just to collect the fishing tackle, I picked up ½ a dozen sinkers and could have collected quite a few squid jigs.
