With a Northerly wind blowing the water was a little choppy inside the Bay, but once we got outside the Heads, the water was really calm. We had only descended a couple of metres, and already we could see the seascape forming below us, becoming clearer and clearer by the metre. Immediately two very large cuttlefish caught our eye, and then we spotted a couple of huge crayfish in the ledges of the pinnacles (which we decided to take photos of, rather than eat!!). Mel and I spent our whole dive exploring the one small area where we initially descended, amazed at the assortment of sea stars, sea biscuits, sea squirts, colorful soft corals and the variety of fish. A reminiscent scene from Popes Eye. Other divers in the group also reported spotting crayfish and Sea Dragons. As we warned up after the dive in front of the open fire at the Rye Hotel, everyone agreed that this was a brilliant dive.

Thanks to Deon for the great photos.
