With beautiful weather lately the swell has been down and sea conditions very good. With this in mind and very strong northerlies forecast we headed to Diamond bay. Back beach diving is not for everyone. generally the walk in and out is quiet difficult and physical, calf's still ache today. Looking at the picture you would think that the diving would be amazing and in some ways it was. However one thing you learn about back beach diving is conditions change and there is always some swell. The trick is to time it when there is minimal. After walking down the steps we entered the water straight from the stpes. The water was crystal clear at least 10m in the shallows. We started our dive and soon noticed the swell was starting to pickup and the visibility was dropping down to 5m. The further we ventured out the swell seemed to pick up, even though it was relatively small. On this particulr beach there is a fair amount of sand through the middle of the area and this seemed to stair up the vis in various areas. The visibility ranged from 2m to 5 or 6 depending on where you were. Whilst we didnt see anything amzing, a couple of crays and heaps of abs the dive was very good fun. This sort of diving isn't for everyone as it has many challneges, long walks up and down steps, tracks or sand dunes. Combine this with surgy conditions and sometimes limited vis. That's why it is so special, you dont get amazing conditions often although sunday was good. However when you get people that have never been out before and there first words upon surfacing sound like.
WOW THATS WAS AMAZING, "IT'S LIKE FLYING I LOVE IT" makes it all worth it.
