If you haven't been to portsea pier lately then have a look at the photo attached and note there is no beach left now. When we arrived Saturday morning a large sausage full of sand has been placed around the front of the pier with piles of rocks to try and protect the pier and beach from further damage. We spent the day under and around the pier diving, entry now is only from the pier as quiet often the swells does not allow beach entry. During the day we saw many things, large school of globefish at the western end of the pier, pipefish, cuttlefish, squid, dumpling squid, dusky morwong,
Sea dragons, large stingray, shaws cowfish and several large flathead. We did a night dive late in the day which was excellent, the swell had dropped significantly. This made entry from the beach possible and allowed us to explore horseshoe reef also before heading across to the pier.
