Another awesome night dive at rye pier. Unfortunately this was the last one of a great course of night dives. We entered at the lower landing and headed north towards, the bottom was covered in Brindled leatherjackets, this must be the capital for the world there are 100's of them. As we made our way down the pier we saw several very large red bait crabs, nothing exciting about this except. The first time In saw it I thought I didn't see it, like first flash of lightning. The second time I was sure. These crabs were feeding on the brindled leatherjackets, they would sit very still and then crunch. I have never seen it before but that's what I saw. I guess that the beauty of getting out there, you don't see these things at home. Other highlights were several velvet fish, large schools of Melbourne silverbell, schools of squid, sand octopus, seahorses, small cuttlefish, lots of hermit crabs, large stingray and heaps of other cool things. We also did a search and recovery for a panicking fisherman's car and house keys. Great job of navigating Andrew, keep your eyes posted for out next night diving course coming soon.
