It was a late start today with the pier workers not 'knocking off until 4.30. But we wanted to dive the pier so we had to wait for them to finish. With all of the barges & boats tied up and secured we were able to just kit up on the wall, descend at the wall and swim out under all the work boats which was a bit of fun and with the permission of the workers it was quite safe as well.
The pier is very interesting dive at the moment with all of the drilling and air equipment the muddy bottom has been turned over with a few interesting items to be found. The fish life has all but gone with their homes being totally destroyed at the moment, although we did see a couple of Stingrays, a school of Whiting, some globe fish and of course the resident Old Wife's are still about.
The viz picked up to about 8 metres once the workers had finished and with the easterlies blowing, conditions were quite good. We did 70 minutes in the water and the time seemed to really fly, we could easily have done another hour.
