23.7.11 - Mordialloc Pier - Divers: Keith & Rebekah
We kitted up in the cold and made our way up the pier. I had really high expectations of this dive because the water was exceptionally clear (I could see the sandbars from the pier).
We descended down into a magical place with hundreds of tubeworms on every pylon & rock. The first thing we found was a beautiful seahorse free swimming towards a rock. It wrapped its tail around a tubeworm and settled there for its photo shoot. It didn't seem to perplexed by two very eager photographers takings its photo for half an hour from every conceivable angle. The seahorse looked like it was in the middle of a tubeworm forest.
We then slowly made our way towards the beach looking any sign of fish or sea life. There wasn't much but there were plenty of sea biscuits and sea stars to take photos of as well as lots of sponge life on the pylons.
We then turned around and made our way back up the pier to the very end, finding a globefish along the way, a Dragonette hiding on a pylon and crabs scuttling around.
We ended out dive a little cold but with a good 67 minute dive (70 mins on Keith's computer).
It was one of the best dives I have done and I will definitely being back to Mordy Pier. It is just so beautiful under there, but unfortunately no Blennies for me today!
Keith and I quickly warmed up and had a nice coffee at the cafe there whilst discussing how good the dive was!
Bek,
thanks to Keith for the great shot of the sea horse.
