Mordialloc pier night dive
Saturday 23 May night vis 10 temp 15
Saturday I went on my first dive around Mordialloc pier. Over the summer I have had great reports about the macro life, blennies, seahorses and pipefish so I decided at last to check it out. We got in the water from the lower landing on the left hand side of the pier and headed west towards the end. In between the pylons there is mostly sand so most of the life was around the pylons and old trolleys. There were a few seahorses, pipefish, squid, globefish, pygmy leatherjackets, cobblers, nudi's flounder, flathead, one large and a couple of small stingrays, the smallest snapper, hermit crabs, blennies and one really strange Australian salmon. This guy swam with us the entire time, and I mean he was swimming right up to us. At one point he swam in Amber's so she gave him a cuddle before letting him go, he was very friendly. Unfortunately like a lot of the areas north of mornington this time of year the fish life is becoming a little scarce, as a night dive though there was plenty to see and it was nice and close.
