It was a going to be a lovely day for a dive and we decided to try Blairgowrie first and then onto Rye. We were kitting up in the carpark at 9:30am and people were already coming back from their dives! We both entered from the shore and slowly made our way up the left side pier and returned down the right. The viz was excellent so we both immediately started taking shot after shot! There was plenty of sea life to take photos of and we both found pipefish, a couple of blue & yellow nudibrachs, lots of little pier fish,a couple of big bellied seahorse, and a beautiful short headed seahorse. We had just made it down to the end of the pier when another diver came over and pointed to where Bec was already taking photos, I quickly swam over to find a beautiful Blue Ringed Octopus making its to another hiding spot. I am very grateful to whoever the diver was the spotted the beautiful octopus and we both spent ages taking photo after photo. He didn't seem very perturbed with us and was a little inquisitive about our camera's. We then both slowly made our way back to shore feeling very satisfied about a fantastic dive.
Then onto Rye Pier where we met up with the Saturday shore divers and an Advanced Open Water course. The viz wasn't as good as Blairgowrie but we decided to have a look anyway. Once we entered the water from the landing on the left side were at least 50 schooling Calamari that just hung around in the water checking us out. There was plenty of schooling fish hanging around under the pier. At the end I found a blennie in a log and he seemed to be very happy to be the Model of the hour. He kept popping his head further out of his hole looking at his reflection in the dome! We then slowly made our way back to the landing and found a large decorator crab sitting on a log.
What a fantastic day of dives. I am so lucky to have such world class diving on my doorstep!!!
