Last Saturday 15 of us headed down to Blairgowrie for a Saturday shore dive. After a briefing each group geared up and headed out for their share of adventure. Some of the guys entered from the lower landing and some of us from the beach. I have learnt over the years that all though it may be boring sand quiet often you can see a lot on the way out whilst swimming over what is considered boring sand. In about 1-3 m of water swimming along the rail that leads to the water I saw the following. Large schools of sandy sprat( large school of small baitfish) hunting these in these are squid, tommy rough( looks like a small Australian Salmon) and the not so pretty stargazer always lying buried in the sand waiting. As we moved further down the pier the pylons were alive with small blenny going about their daily business or where they hiding and not be someone's breakfast. I was surprised to see a pied comoron hunting around the pylons, it was actually picking at the pylons. I have seen them eating a sea horse before so I guess that's where they get from. Further down the pier we came across several, Nudi's, seahorses, large schools of juvenile goatfish and a large flathead hiding in the weeds waiting for lunch. I am running another shore dive 23rd May meeting at the shop at 9am, if you wish to join email adriian@aquability.com.au
