This was the first time we had ever dived Beacon Reef. Good stair access from the car park led us straight to the shore of a very secluded, almost 'private' beach, where we made our entry. We started off with a short surface swim heading south/ west towards Beacon Reef. When we descended we noticed that there was a lot of healthy growth of sponges, hard corals and bright green sea lettuce beds. The reef is made up of tumbled rocks, rocky reef outcrops and ledges that house lots of small fish. We were surprised at the amount of Sting Rays that we saw. Being nestled in a small bay, we were quite protected from any current, which made for a very pleasant, relaxing dive. A maximum depth of 5m was achieved at the end of the reef near the beacon. After the dive we headed off for lunch to discuss the new site.
