Divers: Matt, Cameron & Mark
The weather was perfect for a graveyard trip, light winds & flat seas which promised 15 metres plus viz. Although the sun would not rise for another hour or so the 5.00am start did not dampen the enthusiasm & all divers where keen for what is always a great dive. The usual banter between the blokes on the boat helps pass the time of the trip out. As often is the case, outside the heads the water is clear however a layer of sediment blocks out the little sun light we have, making this feel very much like a night dive. The Auriga was a sailing ship which means there are no boilers, however there is still plenty to see and with the bow & stern both standing quite proud off the bottom, even this small ship of 540 tons takes time to swim around at 55 metres. This once majestic ship with her fine lines, clipper bow & canter levered stern would have been a magnificent site under sail, impressing the staunchest of land lovers - but to the wreck diving enthusiast even laying on the ocean floor she is still a beautiful sight.
