Melbourne Wall and Reef Diving from Aquability - Port Phillip Bay
The wall diving in Melbourne's Port Phillip Bay is world class. With the banks of the former Yarra River forming walls dropping from 8m to as far down as 100m it provides accessible diving for all levels of diver. The walls are spectacular and absolutely covered in life which is sustained by the nutrient rich water flows in massive currents in and out of the heads. This environment in turn supports a myriad of fish, invertebrate and other life from the famous blue devil fish, crayfish and the rarely seen seven gilled shark. Popular sites include: Nepean Wall, Lonsdale Wall, Spectacular Reef and North Wall Corner.
Sea life found amongst bay
The reefs inside and outside Port Phillip Bay are shallower extensions of the spectacular wall systems which typify some of Melbourne's best diving. From Boarfish Reef where Blue Devils, Port Jackson Sharks and of course Boarfish can be regularly sighted to Easter Bommie where massive crayfish can be caught. When in season Blacklip and Greenlip Abalone can also be taken, check fisheries local laws for appropriate locations, numbers and dates.
