AIMA/NAS
PART 1: Maritime Archaeology, Introductory Training
Ever
wondered how we identify the site when new wrecks are found? Then why not try assisting with some underwater
surveying and possibly the identification of one of our many shipwrecks. If you
have an interest in shipwrecks, our heritage, maritime history, or maybe you just
want to get that little bit more out of your diving.
The
general aim of the course is to introduce the methods and procedures employed
in underwater archaeology, as well as to generate awareness regarding shipwreck
preservation in our country.
The
Part 1 course is a general introduction to maritime archaeology which focuses
on aspects such as pre-disturbance, or in other words, non-intrusive surveys of
shipwreck sites. It is generally run over
a weekend, with a theoretical lecture component and simulated land exercises.
Underwater exercises can also be conducted with those who have diving experience.
You do not have to be able to dive to do this course.
